I don't live near any Horse slaughter plants, but we're close to many bird farms that raise and slaughter and the smell is awful, but no worse than the smell of people spraying fields with fertilizer. My friend lives right next door to a slaughterhouse that does large livestock, cows, horses and some pigs. It was run very well in the past, there was no smell and they did most of their business in the early mornings, the rest of the day was processing so there was very little noise / commotion throughout the day. There was absolutely no smell, and no rise in horse theft. However when it fell into bad management things changed, there was always lots of commotion, distressed animals, smell, etc.

For smell and truck traffic wont be any different then a cattle plant. And they are regulated my the goverment so it is as humanly as possible way better then mexico.
For the first year lock your house. There WILL be people there protesting.

Thank you everyone. I appreciate everyone being upfront about all this. I really know very little about slaughter plants in general regardless of what they slaughter. I just know that certain representatives of mine are hard core pushing for this to pass. I read the bill that they voted on and honestly one part bothers me.
It says that in no form may any one contest the building or such of the slaughter plant in any court. I understand that is most likely to keep the PETA wanna-be's and what not from holding them up in court for pretty much ever.....but what happens if there is a legit concern with the building or management of the place????
Seems kinda crazy to me to include something like that in the bill. Anyone have any insight?

Also, cowboy bowhunter, I have never lived in close proximity to any slaughter plant...(hopefully the horse one will be far away from me. I just want to be prepared if not). I did not even think of people protesting either. Hhmmm. They might be more destructive and problematic than the plant.

Lol...yeah, guess I sorta messed up with that. I just meant that I didn't want some heartbroken teen that had watched a youtube video and instantly knew everything about horse slaughter.
