im new and im not really sure if theres a place to go thats just people talking about horses that isnt something specific so if anybody wants to id love to have someone to talk to
Hi sorry I've never been on a forum before so I'm still getting used to it I guess I ride more western than anything else i only ever rode in one show and I did some trail riding but for the most part I just kinda messed around doing different stuff with my horse Ryuu
Love the horse's name - since I asked about Faolchu over on Confessions, I'll ask what the origin/meaning of Ryuu here. I'm assuming it is also Irish/Celt?
i talk horses nonstop lol! im battening down the hatches for arizona's "winter" aka its going to be 120F on Monday and i have to weather proof my animals. extra salt, hosing them down and LOTS of water and mushy pellets for all! also good bye riding weather! cant wait for 60 degree temps this next october XD!
Ryuu was a red dun quarter horse I put some pictures of him on here but I'm not sure if it worked his name means dragon in Japanese when my mom and dad said my uncle was giving me a horse I made an at least three page list of names I liked and Ryuu ended up being my favorite for him
Well nice to meet you. I'm an "Okie" and brand new to the horse world. I had my first riding lesson a bit over a week ago. I've a long way to go until I own one. Ryuu looks charming. When I seen his name I thought of an anime character I liked. Kyleen Drake means "She who walks with dragons," so I like the name Ryuu! My sons are a bit dragon crazy, mostly Skylanders. lol
Is it hot where you are? Are you getting to ride much? Too hot here to be outside past 10:00am to 4:30pm.
Thanks I don't know if your horses back riding teacher is anything like mine were but don't trust everything they say blindly my last teacher didn't take very good care of her horses and did a lot of crappy stuff I didn't know about until she was gone and when she left she even stole some of my stuff and its really easy for stuff like that to happen without you even noticing it sorry if saying all that is kinda weird I just wish I had known before all that happened anyway yeah it's pretty hot I live in Arkansas i don't get to be around horses much anymore Ryuu had to be euthanized a couple months ago I've only gotten to go back out to the barn once since
Thanks and yeah I definitely want to keep working with horses its driving me nuts that I haven't been able to be around them in so long they've always been my happy place
Thanks he was my first horse and the only horse I've ever had I only had him five years but he was part of my family he was like a big dog only gentler
I'm so sorry you lost your 'dragon.' They do find their way into your hearts and it hurts so ****ed much when you lose one - for whatever reason. You'll never forget him, but the pain will turn into memories of the good times eventually. Hold tight to those forever.
I wish we knew what happened to him the lady we kept him with called us one morning because sometime that night spmerhing had happened and he had beaten himself up pretty bad broken his leg and nearly torn it off part of the fence was a little messed up from when it happened but I don't think it was bad enough that he could've gotten caught in it and he had little flakes the green paint on him from hitting the fence posts and a couple little this weird green mesh looking stuff I didn't recognize he didn't have a halter or anything on he could've gotten hung and my mom thinks someone might've accidentally shot him all I know is that It would've taken something really bad for him to panick enough to do that anyway hi change thanks what are your horses like
I'm sorry for your loss, but amputation wouldn't have been an option, so don't beat yourself up over an impossible 'could have'.
Horses don't do well with prosthetics, and they're not like dogs or cats, who can do just fine on three legs. Not to mention the money you would have poured into him to keep him from foundering on his remaining feet.
You did the best, kindest thing by letting him go. A leg 'almost hanging off' is absolutely a death sentence for a horse.
No definitely not a trainer I've been riding horses since I was little but all I did was ride and help take care of them some and I never really did much actual training with Ryuu he was 17 and really well trained with an awesome personality I mostly just spoiled him
