thoroughbred brand identifying help please, either Australia or New Zealand

Ok, so anybody that knows me on here will know of my thoroughbred gelding Mitchell. He is a 9yo 16.1hh brown gelding with no markings.

I have been curious as to what his brand could be, as I know he was an australian bred horse, with a japanese sire, and an american dam, but he was shipped over to NZ as a youngster (talk about multi-national horse )

His race name was Fuji Extreme, and I know he only raced in NZ, but I am not sure whether he was branded in Australia, or here in NZ, my guess would be Australia since most breeders or the vet brand them.. But if anybody can help me source this brand that would be of great help!

I'm hoping you can see this picture properly, if not I can go take another one when I find a camera, but his brand is MDS, the M has a rail on top, the D is normal, and the S is on it's side. On his other side the brand is 4 over 3 (this means he was the 4th foal branded in that year doesn't it?)

Nothing about this is actually important in any special way, I would just like to know who the brand signifies and see if I can find youngster photos of my boy

I'm not sure of the MDS Brand, I'm still getting to know them at work. I'm afraid I don't recognise that one.

The numbers to my knowledge are as you said. The 4 meaning he was the 4th foal born/branded at his stud and since you say he is 9 yrs old the 3 would mean 2003.

My two horse Apache and Sammy are my world
along with our dogs Patch and Bear.
But I will always love you Jimmy R.I.P

You could contact the NZ racing industry board.....they are pretty helpful and more than likely keep a brand registry......

I did think about that, but I wasn't sure whether they would help as I don't know if Mitchells brand is from Australia as a foal, or NZ as a youngster on the track.

I did however, find out he has a microchip, so when the vet comes out here next friday to update his vaccinations, I am going to see if she can scan it for me and if we can find out who it is registered to from there
