Thoughts on the Grand National? Yay or nay?

I'm potentially changing my essay subject from my other thread. The new subject would be "Should the Grand National be banned or adjusted?". Does anyone have any opinions on this? I would like to see what everyone else thinks about it. Is the distance too long? Are the fences too dangerous? Is the field too big?

I think one of the best things they could do is reduce the field. The fact that there is 40 starters, is IMO, one of the biggest "crash factors" in the race. If you seriously watch/analyse the race, you'll notice that with the accidents and falls at the fences, the majority of them are caused by traffic jams resulting in pile ups, rather than horses under jumping the fences. I reckon if they reduced the field by half to 20 starters, then they could massively reduce the number of fallers and injuries, but that's just my opinion :)

^^ Agree.

I just think the field size needs to be adjusted.

I agree, I read that in the 2011 National that only 19 of the 40 starters finished

I think the race would benefit from a smaller field, but then those in it should have to qualify for the race, so they at least stand a chance of completing the course.
