Tired of Riding Alone

I am always riding by myself. I mean ya, at times it's nice to just spend time with my horse but lately it's been getting kinda lonely. No one in my family is really into horses and I board at a place where everyone is over the age of 40 and does dressage or some other type of English riding. I ride western and I'm 16. So I don't have much in common with the other riders as you can see. There is one other girl that rides with me sometimes...but she's 12 (not that I have ANYTHING against 12 year old, she's just a little young) and she spends most of the ride keeping her horse from rearing, bucking, biting her lol. Koby just looks at him like he's nuts. So, who here rides alone? What do you do to keep from getting lonely/ bored? Does anyone here live in the Salem Oregon area and needs a riding buddy? :)

Awwww, sorry, wish you had a riding buddy your age. I ride alone quite often but sometimes my husband goes with me, I ride way more than him though. I take lessons and sometimes I take group lessons just to ride with others, breaks the monotany and is usually the easier lesson as the instructors' attention isn't always on me. Yes, I take a private at least once a week, so I ain't sloughing off! I would try lessons, you might pick up a riding buddy and EVERYONE can use lessons.

i too ride alone most of the time. I mostly try to just do different patterns with my horse to keep things interesting for the both of us.

When I go I trail rides though, I never go alone. Just feels safer with someone else so I usually end up with the older ladies..... too bad you aren't in SoCal I have the same problem! Everyone is 12 or 40+ and i'm 21.

Yes I love taking lessons! As soon as I get a job I'm sure I'll take them again, but after we moved to a more expensive barn we had to stop lessons. I've never taken a group lesson though! Sounds fun!

I feel for you, I've been there, but there are worse things than riding alone. Everyone told me I shouldn't ride alone so I made a concentrated effort to find riding buddies. Here's the results:

Buddy #1 - Lovable, laughable, outgoing and friendly. Very good rider and compatible with my style of riding and age. Got very close to this person and gave them lots of stuff. Person always in some kind of drama or fix and had to help them out all the time. Gave person $1,000 to assist in leaving abusive relationship. Person responded by stealing my brand name western saddle and has now disappeared and can't contact or find them.

Buddies 2, 3, 4 and 5 - All beginner level riders. Helped find horses. Boarded horses for free. Made me feel guilty if I rode without them. Can't go faster than a walk or someone freaks out. Won't leave my property. Gets mad when I ask for help with feed, hay, chores, etc. Finally have to threaten before I can get help or money. Still waiting for 3 horses to leave but at least now have a signed boarding contract.

Ugh. Now I want to ride alone. I want to be LEFT ALONE, LOL! Can't imagine why I ever wanted a riding friend and can't wait to be back to riding by myself!

I usually ride alone and do most of my riding on the trails. I guess I'm strange - I never feel lonely! I don't know anyone like me in that regard.

Do you have any friends that like to hike, trail run or mountain bike? My husband will hike/ trail run while I ride and we sometimes go to parks where the trails are better groomed and he rides his bike.

I've never thought of that! My dad wants to get into mountain biking, maybe that could be something we do together! Fun!

I may be 40+ or even 50+, but if you came trail riding with me, you'd have some fun.

I ride alone too much, too. Sometimes it's nice, but I tend to be much more cautious when alone. A good riding buddy is a treasure!
