Uconn Equine Program???

Anyone on here from good ole CT that is in or knows someone in the Uconn Equine Program? I am interested in the buisiness managment classes to train to be a possible trainer. Again if you know anyone or have heard of their program I would love to know! Thank you for your time

All the girls I know who went to school for horses when to Post. I don't know about UCONN, but I'm told Post has a very good program.

I believe the manager of the UConn equestrian program is John Bennett. He is the owner of John Bennett Stables in Putnam CT. I don't have any knowledge on the UConn equestrian program, but I have heard nothing but good things about it. If John Bennett runs his program anything like he runs his stables, it would be an incredible program to get into.

I can tell you a little bit about John Bennett's Stable:

I took my horse, Campbell (morgan percheron cross), to John Bennett Stables for 30 days of riding and driving finishing at the recommendation of my farrier. Cam went to John Bennett Stable a disrespectful bulldozer of a horse, and came back a beautifully mannered, respectful horse eager to do his job. John Bennett Stable specializes in the Morgan Horse and is predominantly a Morgan Barn, but the atmosphere there is really laid back and accepting, unlike most Morgan barns I've been too where they are.....a little....biased towards Morgans and closed minded to anything else? While John Bennet Stables shows the Morgans, they train and board all horse breeds, and provide both riding and driving programs. I can speak from experience when I say that it is an AWESOME barn!

I am a plus size rider, and I was warmly welcomed at John Bennett's barn and I absolutely love both John and his daughter Kate (and everyone else at that barn as well).

I can't say enough good things about John Bennett........so I would assume that his equestrian program at UConn is just as awesome!!!!!

My neighbor is the retired Equestrian Professor from UCONN.

I don't know anything about their program but I do know she's an excellent horsewoman, so I imagine they've kept up the tradition.

Just like any college field, before you go spend thousands and thousands of dollars and years of your life on a degree, make sure there is a JOB waiting for you at a salary that will at least cover your student debt. Check your state department of labor for placement statistics. Also go to the unemployment agency, tell them if you had "X" degree what jobs are open today and what do they pay? DONOT TAKE THE COLLEGES WORD FOR THIS INFO!
I used to bang my head into the wall dealing with young adults with degrees not worth the paper they are written on, they go to school for something they like, with no thought whatsoever about the job at the end. They can't seperate career from hobby. You go to college for a Job to support your hobby, Make sure your not going to school for a hobby then end up with no money to enjoy the hobby.

Thank you for all your responses so far. I was looking into Post for their massage therapy program but I found the Uconn equestrian team more to my liking. However either way I would go to Post but I want to commute to save money and I live in south eastern CT, whereas Post University is about 2 hours away from my home. Uconn however is only 45 minutes away so that would be easier. And Joe4d I couldn't agree with you more about wasting money with degrees that will not get me much of a job. However I am attending community college for my first two years to get all of my core classes finished and save a bundle and just have my junior and senior year to take classes of my choice. I would love anything equine as a job and hopefully it will turn into a career but if not I will surely apply for another job.

And I will look up John Bennett to see if he is still affiliated with Uconn! Thanks for the posts and please keep them coming I need all the info possible! Oh and btw I am only a junior in high school so I still have a while to prepare

Aye, but if you accrue *enough* useless degrees, one of them might eventually land you a job.
