Ugh, too hot, so much for training today

Went out to the barn at 8am. By the time I filled water tanks, groomed, picked feet, fly sprayed & did sunscrean, I was dripping wet already. If I'm that unconfortable, no way I'm making either of the boys do any work. As I put everything away, Jack was happily wiping his sunscrean on everything, the barn walls, the water tank, the donkey..... LOL hopefully he wiped some of it into his skin!

Same again. You basically have to wait until 7.30 or 8 at night to be able to do anything. It is simply too hot. I have had no success at all with riding lately - both me and the horses are on edge because of the heat and bugs, and it very quickly dissolves into a fight. I have just given up trying to ride during the day at all. You get nothing done.

OUR heat won't break until Saturday evening. My horse's had a bath party on the 4th instead of work. You might try starting your training ride at 5 am. I did that a few year's back. A stable near me used to work 5 am-9am as a standard for the summer, then they'd pick up training again in the evening.

You either have to get crazy early or wait until it cools down at night. Now I am feeling pretty lucky living where I do. It is finally going to get hot here, almost 80F, but it stays cool until 10 am & cools off in the evening. Also the bugs are not that bad, I can fend them off with the el cheap Bronco but if I head out to the forest I have to use the pricey Ultra Shield. Another nice thing about living in an Alpine region, doesn't matter how it is, when you head out to the trails under the forest canopy, it's still cool. But when it's hot like this, I'd rather head out to one of the lakes & go for a swim, with or without the horses!

102F here today! I was planning on schooling Molly a little for our show tomorrow but decided it was just too hot. I lunged her for a few minutes in the shady round pen and gave her a cool bath.

These horseflies are getting aggressive here! While I was bathing her, a persistent one at least twoinches long kept pestering her. I finally whacked the darn thing with the sweatscraper, but it looks like I'll be investing in fly sheets. The horseflies just don't respect the fly spray.
