unsupportive parents?

I hate coming home after lessons. If it was good I explain, my parents are like oh, ok good, you didnt fall off. And don't really care. If I do fall the say oh. R you ok? I say yes theen their like ok good. And go back to watever they were doing. They couldnt care less! My mom is scared to death of even sitting on my horse. (she has been skydiving howver!) if I bring up horses at the dinner table my parents they say " could you not talk about horses!"
"no, its the only thing im good at." (its true, I suck at other sports)
"well talk to ur friends or something"
"they don't like horses"
"well we don't want to hear it"
So what do I do? This is mainly a rant so you don't really have to answer the question

Eww- that sounds unsupportive. Have you tried asking them about their day to see if you can get them engaged in conversation and then go to something you like to talk about?

I do know that when I am tired, I don't listen very well, so perhaps pay attention to how they are feeling.

They are your parents and in my opinion they should be excited about listening to you. I am sorry it sounds like they are not.

First off, welcome to the forum

Good for you for having such a passion for horses, no one can break that or take that away from you. People can be funny sometimes how people think and behave. It can be harsh to not have that parental interest, I know I went through that growing up as well.

What you do have on you side tho, and it speaks louder than words is your parents love. They do care about your interest in that they have provided you with lessons and a way to spend time with what you love most. That to me, shows that they do care about you and what you love, your passion. I am sure they both work hard to be able to afford spending money on something that you enjoy so much(regardless of what you think you are good at or not).

Not everyone has the same interest, and it does sound a little cold they wouldnt try to even make some conversation about it BUT they do sound like parents who absolutely love you and work hard to be able to offer you what you love most, horses.

Yeah, you just have to find friends who you can talk about it with, like friends from the barn, or atleast a friend who is a good listener. I've dealt with unsupportive parents my entire life, it sucks but its the way it goes. Luckily I have found lots of other people who are willing to listen.

Even if your parents don't have much to contribute to the conversation, maybe they will still just listen to you talk?

I have a daughter that loves basketball. I barely even understand the game, much less the technical stuff. When she gets to telling me about something really technical, she is talking over my head and sometimes I find myself zoning out...not intentionally though, I just don't get it! It can be really hard to listen and pay attention about a subject you know nothing about. That doesn't mean that I don't love my daughter or that I don't care about her interests.

Well, your parents at least showed enough interest to get you a horse...
