Use my saddle....

I am unable to ride for a couple of months and have a asked a girl who will be schooling my horse to please use my saddle. Is this an unreasonable request? My horse has high withers and I don't want any problems. I know my saddle is good and safe on her back. Is that too much to ask????!!!!

Nope. A rider should always use the tack that the horse owner requests. Even if that means sometimes the tack doesn't fit the rider. I usually use my own stirrups and leathers though so I don't change anyones setup.

Put your foot down. Tell her to use your tack or don't ride. If she's riding English then let her use her own irons and leathers. Reins too if she has a set she likes best.

Nope, not at all. It would be like her changing the horse's bit.

Hmmm....

Not only is that NOT too much to ask - it's common to expect the rider to use the tack that is fitted to the horse.

Did the rider give you a problem with this?

That's a perfectly normal request. She should respect your choice.

OR if she uses her own tack, it needs to be evaluated by a legit saddle evaluator.

I turned up unexpected at the barn and she was riding my horse with her very old saddle that is too close to my horses withers. Not happy!! I was told by her mother (who is also a riding instructor at the barn) that my saddle does not fit my horse. I was furious as I know my saddle was fitted to my horse by not one but three people who know perfectly well how a saddle should fit. She has promised to use my saddle in future!! Either that or she comes off my horse.

Perfectly resonable. And if someone ever argued with me, they could take a hike. My horse, my investment, my rules. Take it or leave it.

Personally, soon as they disobeyed, that'd be it. You don't get second chances with my horses. There's a lot of responsible people out there for me to deal with someone else's BS. Not when it comes to my horses.

*sigh* I sure hope so..

Just for future reference, riding instructor =/= certified saddle fitter.

Skyset.... I had the saddle when I purchased it (new) fitted by two different riding instructors. The saddle that the daughter of the trainer at my barn was using is very old and lies too close to my horses withers. I suspect that the trainer here likes to think that she knows better so likes to contradict, even when my saddle fits just fine. Plus I have been using my saddle for over a year and there have been no issues. Do you find that in the horse world, people will contradict in an effort to prove they know better, even when they don't.... Arghhh..

Well then yeah I agree that she's probably trying to outfox you when there isn't a need to..

Unfortunately a lot of people are like that.. they think they know it all. I certainly don't but sometimes I come off that way lol. Getting more humble each day

Have you seen her riding in your saddle since you made this thread?
