No possum .. we are thinking he left due to the fact that the one who left the grain bin open is not leaving it open anymore no tracks nosprung trap and the cat food in the trap is untouched

NO way did the opposum leave--he's just hiding out. You don't need expensive wet cat food--possums go after the cheap dry cat food I feed my cats. My cats supplement it with mice. We've shot quite a few over the years. The WORST was the trio of raccoons in my grain room last Fall. STUPIDLY, I cut a cat door in my grain room, for mousing, but now possums and raccoons have discovered it. I really need to cut some wood and nail it closed again.
My dogs will sniff 'em out, DH will shoot them, but I have to clean up the blood and guts!! It takes like a whole bottle of bleach until I can't smell them anymore.
The best thing is to keep the grain room closed in the Fall, and same for your case, if possible.

The $0.30 a can wet cat food might work better - possums can't see very well, so the stinkier the bait the more likely they will be attracted to it. Sardines in oil work well too!
