Well, I got kicked...

I managed to get myself kicked today. In the back, right underneath/partway on my right shoulder-blade, about an inch away from my spine. Yeah... it hurts. Now that I’ve gotten still, my shoulder is beginning to stiffen up and it’s making it hard to move my arm and all... and it hurts, lol. My great grandma looked at it and told me that I have a literal hoof-print on my back...

So, what happened... well, y’see, it happened like this...

My ten year old cousin Autumn was down for a bit earlier today. She wanted to go for a short ride, so I agreed. We caught the horses... she caught my 15 (almost 16) year old mare Gypsie (incidentally, the one who kicked me), and I got my 3 (almost 4) year old gelding Dakota out. I was holding both horses up at the barn, waiting for Auttie to unlock the tack room door and grab the bridles for us when something freaked Gypsie out. I mean really, really freaked out. Like ‘oh my god, what the hell, it’s going to eat me, get me outta here’ kinda freaking out. I held onto her and Dakota instead of letting her go, like I should have. Dakota was just fine, didn’t freak or anything...

I got squished between them for a few seconds with Gypsie panicking and my brain finally managed to tell me to uncurl my fingers from her halter and let her go. So I did... I was positioned halfway turned towards Dakota, so I didn’t see the first kick... but my girl took off towards the house. I felt her hoof strike me on the back and if Dakota hadn’t a been standing beside me, I would have went down to my knees. As it was, I fell against him rather hard... Thank goodness he didn’t panic with Gypsie, instead, he was my foundation for when I fell on him and he stayed still as stone. When Gypsie kicked me and I hit him, though, I kinda twisted around somehow just in time to see her other hoof go flying over my head. If I’d a been about a foot closer to my girl, she would have nailed me right in the face as she went. Thank goodness for small things.

However, it didn’t stop our ride... Autumn and I still rode for about two hours... barebacking it. It was surprisingly fun... My shoulder wasn’t hurting then, so we pretended to race (at a trot only, as we were both bareback and my horses haven’t been ridden in a while). I rode Dakota, she rode Gypsie. Dakota kinda challenged me a few times... refusing to go where I wanted and all a few times, but he reverted back to normal by the time we passed the one mile mark. Autumn had a bit of a harder time with Gypsie, but that girl is very stubborn. She made Gypsie listen and wasn’t afraid to get after her... Lol.

On the way home, the horses were more motivated and were more willing to trot... so we trotted a bit and Dakota really made my day by cantering bareback with me... first time he’s ever done it bareback and without ducking his head, pinning his ears, or acting like he was going to try and buck. He was very, very willing and kept a nice, slow canter for a few strides each time... and it was so smooth...

So we got back home and fed them... had to keep running the other horses off from hanging over the fence, and finally put my two horses up.

So, there you have it... lol. I got kicked... and then had a great ride.

I'm ok... using muscle rub and all... It's not the first time she's kicked me, but it's been so long since she's done it that it kinda took me by surprise at first...
