What am I thinking?

Hello my name is longshot and I'm a horseaholic.... Had 4 horses, sold the TB mare and got down to 3 (good number), now yesterday a friend called my wife to tell her that she was selling her 2 QH geldings. Presto now up to 5. We welcomed Nate and Ace to the herd last night and I gotta figure out how to feed them all and still eat myself... Kidding.. we can feed and care for them but I may have to take up carting as that is the only way I can see to ride 2 horses at once...lol maybe my wife and I can race chariots.. might not be a good idea could end up like Ben Hur... Oh well gotta go call the farrier... the vet... the feed store.. then I am going to go have my head examined...

My Vet and Farrier are currently splitting my childeren's inheritance.

LOL longshot. I'm not sure you'll get any sympathy from anyone on here as we are mostly horse-lovin' enablers.

You do realize, pictures of the new guys are a must?

I second that, I would enjoy seeing photos of your herd!

Cute post. Enjoy but with only 2 riders, 5 horses is a bit of an upkeep. You could jsut do what I do, whoever is easier to catch that day gets ridden ;)

That's great!!! PHOTOS!!
I've banned myself from horse classifieds and craigslist!
The bigest herd I've had was 13! (most rescues or unwanted) I went bonkers but loved it. After my accident I rehomed most of my horses and got down to one, now up to three... Must not look, more horses badddd, oh, well ONE SEARCH couldn't hurt, NOOOOOOO!!!!!

Hi, welcome to Horses Anonymous. We have a division for foalaholics as well. Please don't spend that money getting your head examined, they'll find nothing up there. Besides, it is better spent on hay, farrier, vets, feed, tack, pasture upkeep and/or any of the other 24287587495951835 things that your horses need or will need when you are broke, it is after hours, the nearest place to get it is 75 miles one way, or your horse crazy child just "REALLY REALLY needs it Dad!"
ROFLMAO welcome to the world of horse addicts. We hope your stay will be lifelong and that you find your addiction entirely satisfying. We don't do rehab btw :) we feed the addiction with encouraging words and money saving tips LOL

ETA: We do expect you to help with our addiction upkeep by posting pictures of each new addiction, umm I mean herd member :P

Am there myself now...up to 4 horses and Im the only one that really has time to ride if I can find it. I was down to 2 and ended up getting one of my previous horses back from someone who had just taken my gelding on the trial basis...well he's back at home now (honestly glad because no one takes care of them like I do:). Then I am still stupid enough to occasionally look at craigslist for those good buys(not animals), but can't resist looking at the horses people have up to find homes for. About a month ago ended up with horse number 4. I claim her as a rescue though, because the people who had her should have been giving her alot more food and some hoof care. That's what drew me to her, the eyes in her picture, she looks so depressed and skinny. And she was getting beat up by all the other horses at this place because she is so timid. Mine love her but she still somewhat panics if she thinks they have her cornered in somewhere, even though they were not doing it intentionally, usually grazing near a fenceline or something. I didnt even ride her..took one look at her feet and ribs and kind of gave them the "are you kidding look" when they asked if I wanted to. After about 4 weeks of good food and a farrier, finally rode her. Beautiful is all I can say...shes green, but a very quick learner and no inclination to buck, so Im thrilled. But I have long since gotten over the guilt of not really being able to ride all of mine weekly. Honestly I get my most pleasure sometimes just watching them or grooming them..they are my de-stresser. And they are all ready attention, and return it. So to me I get my investment back.
