I have been riding for 8 years, and I already own two horses; however, I recently am in the situation where I can finance my own new hunter jumper(my parents pay for my other two). Now before you think I am a brat and tell me to enjoy what I have, let me explain. I have my wonderful two horses whom I LOVE and ADORE!! The thing is they are better off trail horses. One of them(Dillon), I have used as my "hunter jumper" for years, but the poor thing hates doing more than 2' and I am more than ready to move up! I have owned him for 7 years this fall, and plan on still jumping him, just over the lower stuff. Now into the horse I am looking for. In the past my mom picked what she wants(by color) and we bought it. We didn't even try other horses. I am not saying they are bad horses, they are GREAT! I just need something that loves to work and wants to be as good as I do. So now my real questions. 1) Do I bring my own saddle??
2) What are good questions to ask? I have thought of the basics but what else should I bring up? 3)Do I ride before the owner to be sure I put myself in my routine fresh horse situation? or do they show me what it knows first? 4)How many horses do you recommend trying and if I am looking to purchase my horse by latest EARLY DECEMBER when should I start trying horses out?(My goal is to try at least 7)
If you read all of this, God bless you!! and any help is appreciated! Thanks!!
