What direction to go? opinions and ideas welcome

I was in the market for a new instructor this past month. (I officially signed up with one today) This one question came up over and over again when talking to potential instructors so I think it is time I start thinking about it. "What direction do you want to go in?" This was normally followed by something like "I can do hunter/jumper, reining, western pleasure ect. ect. " Right now I am doing just generic w/t/c lessons. I have been in the horse world for ten years on and off, so I think it is high time to start figuring this out. I haven't gotten into a specific discipline before because I used to be a VERY nervous rider and trotting was an accomplishment so no one bother to prepare me for anything specific in the future.

SO. What should I do? My instructor can do anything and I can take my horse in any direction, he just wants me to decide (of course I can change later, he just wants an idea on what to work on)

I am currently riding in a western saddle but I am just about the same level bareback. I want to do something fun, maybe like mounted archery (my instructor has connections to mounted archery peoples)

feel free to give your opinions or try to sell me your discipline.

Are you wanting to do something in the show ring? Or are you riding because of a love of horses in general? Are horses a stress reliever and maybe recreation for you or are you wanting to compete at some kind of speed event? Do you own your own horse? Or is that a goal in the future?

Never been into showing and it has been more for the fun of it, but hey showing might be fun too. I do own my own horse but -within reason- I am not using him to decide what discipline to go into. I don't plan on going to the top or getting extremely competitive in anything particular and he could be trained to do anything at the lower levels so I don't really want to use him as a deciding factor in what I do. (he also doesn't have any previous training in any discipline so I will have to train him no matter what I chose)
