what to do?

Hi everyone,

i have a 16hh dappled grey mare, she is about 11 now and over the past 2 years or so has had a lot of time off work. i seem to be constantly bringing her back into work for her to just go lame again.

i want to do more now and when she does get back to full work we dont think she will do much higher than 2'3/2'6 jumping which is much lower than i want to do. is it bad i want to sell her or loan her out for this? i feel bad for saying it but i cant do anymore with her and want to get a new horse to compete at higer levels with (she would do good at dressage but its just not what im interested in).

i dont know what to do. any ideas???

Sure...I have a great idea, just send her to my house! I'll keep her busy and happy for ya!
No really, I don't see anything wrong with rehoming to a great home where she can be utilized.

thanks for the offer but i think it may be to far lol

i just dont want to feel as though im getting rid of her because she isnt good enough cause i really love her. maybe loan her to but keep her at our yard so i can keep an eye on how she is doing.

i think she would do really well in dressage when she is back in work, she goes amazing when she is worked properly.

where are you located?
what ur saying is fine, she is still good as you said, but not what you're interested in right now.
i was into jumping like you, when i got my mare, she did much better in dressage than i thought she would in jumping. although, she ended up changing my mind
anyway, if you find a good home for her, nothing is wrong about that.
like you said, you can start leasing her and still keep an eye on her til you're sure of your decision

im in surrey UK. i have done some dressage on her but i just havnt got into it. i think loaning her out but keeping her close is best for now so i know she is going to be cared for properly.

i have also found an amazing horse i am really interested in who would excel in jumping. just need to sort out my girl first.

Dont think that your selling her because you want to get rid of her, because you dont; you love her if you do decide to selll or lease her remeeber your doing it so she goes to a better home where she has more purpose ( your a great home but when i say better like shell be used more often) It must be hard to part or think about it but itll be alright (:

If you lease her out, its going to make both you and her much happier :)

If you think of it in this way, it makes more sense.

Are you doing her talents any justice by keeping her? If your interests arent the same, you are holding her back. She could be a great hacking horse or a good dressage horse with someone who has an interest in that sort of thing.

I have a QH that is fabulous. I love him to pieces. He is a trained barrel horse and is very fast. He loves his job. He has a huge amount of talent in any speed competition. I am a trail rider. I love to trail ride. Nico doesnt mind it, but he'd much rather be flying around turns and putting his head down into a run. While I love him, I am doing him no justice by making him do something that isnt really great for him.

Leasing or loaning can get difficult. People are unreliable and some will say they are taking care of her and paying her bills when they are not. While Im sure you do love her, I would sell her outright. Find a great buyer, be picky and make a good decision for her.
