What to do with all that manure

Does anybody live on a small farm with horses, 5 acres or less? We are trying to find a farm and know that horses need enough land to graze and get excersize. What do you do with all that manure? Do you just start a pile somewhere? Do farmers let you spread it in their field? Do you give it away to gardeners? Is there someplace that you haul it to?

Sounds great, do you have to haul to them or do they let you borrow their spreader to fill twice a year. We are looking at 5 acres that have field all around.....

If you can buy a spreader and load it when it is full, tell the farmer and he can spread it where he wants it.

Ah - don't generalize. A lot of folks do not like horse manure as the horses body doesn't break down the weed seeds like cattle do. If someone comes in to haul out, we have to pay minimum fuel. Anyone look at the price of diesel lately?

We have specific fields that we can spread specifc things on. One farmer does not want any bedding spread on his fields - so the manure pile from stall cleaning cannot be spread there.

We also compost and post ads on craigslist. We are also on the University extension list for the gardeners to come out for compost.
