What do you think? opinions needed

13 yr old papered Arabian mare - Red Deer Livestock For Sale - Kijiji Red Deer

so, I went and saw the bay arab mare. She looks sound, I rode her through a feild on a windy day, both leading and following, at a walk and trot.
-did not spook, dispite it being windy, chilly and riding past some weird obstacles
-Conformation is not bad, good clean legs,
-stands to be mounted, basic riding skills, soft mouth, walked out on a loose rein.
- willing to take less than the asking price, significantly under budget
-seemed very sweet, no bad attitude
-Not particularly pretty
-Worst shoeing job I've ever seen. My farrier would be getting a call asap.
-older than I was going for.
The biggest selling feature is the fact that a 200# guy +heavy saddle rode her, while leading a pack horse loaded with a fresh kill, through the mountains with feet that are trimmed horribly.
decisions, decisions. Arg. What would you do?

You can't ride pretty.... She sound like a good trail horse. If you can stand what she looks like, I would go for her.

With good care, she may get a lot prettier too.

Sounds like she's had a lot of exposure to extreme trail riding. Not a bad price for a broke trail horse.

I think the tack makes her look awkward and undersized. I think with some TLC she'd pretty up some.

If looks are terribly important to you and you don't like the way she looks, then keep looking.

She sounds like a really good trail horse. I really like it that she has had lots of miles, willingly goes out alone, is soft and does not spook easily. If she can pass a PPE and her feet issues are about the farrier alone, then I think she'd make someone a fine horse.

But again, if her looks bother you, then pass on her. I'd like to see you find the horse that you are extremely happy with and I'd like her to find just the right home.

Those pics are pretty awful to try and judge her by. BUT.....at 13 y.o. she's just coming into her prime if she doesn't have any issues. You could easily get 15 or more years of riding from her and she sounds well trained. I'd be checking her out a little deeper and probably grabbing her up. Looks or no.

look for talent and heart first and peretty will be a bonus ( by the way I think she's pretty not incredibly so but far far from ugly) you can always get her re-shoed and 13 isn't too bad I say go for it

Equestrianism; 10% luck, 20% skill, 15% concentrated power of will, 5% pleasure, 50% pain and 100% reason to remember you're absolutely insane to be riding a beast that big.

She doesn't look that bad at all in the pictures. She doesn't seem to have a typical Arabian head, but I wouldn't say she is ugly. She sounds like a decent horse for pleasure and trails. I assume that is what you want a horse for? Her age shouldn't be a concern at all. Did you ask why she is for sale?

she is for sale because the owner has a bigger horse, better suited to him, and he doesnt need two. He has owned her for three years.
