I can't say which was my "first" horse, as my parents had three horses when I was born, and two of those became mine (and still are!!), and I got my first horse that was *always* "mine" when was 10... Soo...here goes.
My mother had a dark bay paint QH cross. He was a gelding named Ed. Ed was the first horse I rode, and I grew up with him, until he breathed his last breath at the ripe old age of 28, when I was 15.
Calley was purchased by my father when she was a yearling filly, a lovely light palomino QH. She's always been mine, and still is, at the age of 23 and still going strong.
Ginny is a Shetland pony, my father bought her when she was only a few hours old, and she came to live with us when she was 4 (and so was I!
). I still have this baby, too.
The first horse that was "mine, mine," was named Ghost. Ghost was a shaggy grey pony, an easy-going gelding. I was 10 when we purchased him, so I suppose he was about 17 then? I sold Ghost when I started college seven years later, and sadly do not know where he is now.
