What now-suggestions

So all my riding gear has almost all been sold, my saddle is sold as well. All excellent news! Trying to move on with the idea of not riding ever again and staying positive with my future with horses.

I have honestly never done anything but riding related disciplines, so I am currently looking into driving. My lack of knowledge or experience with things other than riding make it more difficult for me to look into other horse related sports and disciplines.

I'm asking what other non-riding horse related things you guys might be doing? what are sports you have done? what got you started? what drives you right now?

Please share all your experiences good and bad. I've had a lot of people look into this with me and have received a lot of messages with suggestions and help(THANK YOU so much for all the info!!).

Thanks again ladies and gents.

So sorry to hear that you might not ride again and that you've been selling your stuff. :( I can't even imagine what you're going through right now but I'm sure it's been a hard road!

I would really look into driving. If you love horses, you love horses whether or not you're on their backs. I had never done anything remotely close to driving but I found a lady who's teaching me how to ground drive/long line some babies and it's been a total blast. It's pretty challenging and there are a lot of principles that cross over. Definitely look into it!

Have you thought about doing things with dogs? I don't know what about riding you love in particular, but if training and/or competition is a passion of yours there's a huge world out there with things to do with dogs like agility or something? I don't know. Sorry, I'm probably no help at all! But I hope you find something that you love!

I, too, seemed to have missed why you can't ride anymore. Is it something to do with your health?

As for suggestions for non-riding horsey activities, I would definately suggest looking into driving. I've never driven personally, but I heard it is definately a blast. I would also talk to CheyAut because I know she competes with her minis in driving shows.

I don't know if you enjoy teaching, but if you do what about giving lessons? I occasionally teach lessons to beginners, and I have to say it's quite fun to see the smiles on their faces.

If I think of anything else I'll make sure to let you know.

I used to volunteer at a Therapeutic Riding Association, you'd obviously be focusing more on the kids than the horses but it is a wonderful way of being around horses and giving back to the community. :) If you have one near you, I'd definitely check it out. They're always looking for volunteers!

Oh! I'm so sorry that you don't think you'll be riding again! But I guess in a way, you're lucky that you love horses and that there are many ways to do stuff with horses as opposed to being a quadriplegic who loves to race cars, or something... That was supposed to be encouraging.
My mom has a friend that has trained all her horses to drive and while I've never driven them myself, it's a major blast to ride with her in her little buggy thing. I would love to learn to drive someday, it looks like SO much fun. And you could drive drafts! Oh man, jealousy right here, right now!
