    Question What Price?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but what would you pay for this horse?

6 year old Palomino Quarter Horse Cross.

Extremely good mind, very willing and has had a great deal of experience. Knows her stuff. Turn on the forhand, haunches, side pass, leg yields, leads, shoulders in, haunches in, and lead changes, and basic collection. Her stop is nice and she listens well to body cues. She has been transitioned into a shanked snaffle, but not yet a solid curb. Fairly soft in the face and sides. Needs work on two tracking and self carriage.

She has been shown and knows her showmanship very well. She's quite in the crowd and is excellent to load, clip and bathe. She will stand tied for hours. Good for the farrier and shots.

Trail rides in the mountains. Crosses creeks, walks over logs (never jumped though), rides in a group best front or back and will ride alone with encouraging. Has been ponied.

Ground manners are great, but she is an in your pocket type of horse. She craves attention. Never bucked, reared, kicked, or been aggressive.

Easy keeper and has never had shoes.

Wouldn't sell for a beginner horse only because of age.

    Her conformation is OK. On a scale of 1 - 10 (1 bad 10 good) I'd say about 5.

Or... How about a lease? What would be a good monthly rate?

Any opinions on sale price or lease price will help!

Considering no more real training than she has under saddle and the fact that she isn't registered, I probably wouldn't pay more than $800, maybe less depending on what her conformation looked like to me. I have no idea about leases though.

^Can I ask what you mean by "real training"?^

Is there anything that can be done to increase her value anyone?

    Thanks:)

I would have to watch her being ridden to get a full feel for the level of training she's got, but almost any horse can pack people around, even on trail rides. I want a lot of handle, flex, responsiveness, and feel on my horses and it doesn't sound like she really has that. The thing that turned me off the most is this: "Fairly soft in the face and sides." Fairly soft is a long way from soft and it takes quite a bit of extra training to get them really soft.

The reason I have her 'fairly soft' is so she can potentially be a beginners horse. She can easily be tuned into becoming soft. She does whats asked, but if a small child or who couldn't ride got on her, her head wouldn't be spinning because she's not extremely soft. I don't like them getting confused and frustrated because of so many mixed aids when they are kids horses! Should have mentioned that before. Sorry!

Thanks for your opinion it has helped!

I've seen QH Crosses sell for $2500 Green. I know people who would pay $4000 (if she's exactly what you say she's like.) and $6500.00 if she's 100% good kids horse.

It also depends on your area. Some areas of the country, horses are selling dirt cheap. Up here, horses are still selling for a couple thousand dollars. You could look at your local horse market via HorseClicks - Horses for Sale - FREE Ads or Equine Now Horses for Sale and figure out what other horses with her training/conformation/age/etc are going for.
