Today I went to the barn at around 4 o'clock to check on my horse. He has a bad habit of cutting himself when he's in his stall so, in that case I went and checked him and suprisingly there were none. As I was putting him back in the stall I realized he had a big lump by his sheath area but, under his belly and it was the size of a baseball.
I brought him back out of his stall and threw him on the cross ties to check him. It was hard as a rock and when I touch it, it hurt him. It didn't seem like bad pain but, he pinned his ears back. He is allergic to ticks and I must have not realized but, when I checked the area he had 4 ticks on him although, they weren't there the other day. I took the ticks off and cleaned the area. Other than when I touched it he doesn't seem in any discomfort.
Than I checked his left side to see if I missed anything and there wasn't anything on that side. I will see if I can get a picture of what it looks like tomorrow but, what wierded me out is that the first one was like a baseball and there was another lump on top of the first one and there was a tick there that I took off and he was bleeding.
Are ticks even supposed to be out this time of year? It's pretty chilly here, today it was in the 40's but the day before yesterday it was in the 60's. I'm not sure if I should call the vet because, as I said he is allergic to ticks and he's had these lumps before when there was a tick on him! Do I wait a couple of days to see if it goes down or do I call the vet?
I will post pictures tomorrow of what it looks like. Any help is gladly appreciated :)
