What's he worth??

Hi guys!
I desperately need opinions here. As some of you know, my daughter & I leased Jojo about 2 years ago. He & I never really clicked, but he & my daughter became immediate buddies. We were told that if we were ever interested in buying that he was available for purchase. Well, it has gotten to the point that my daughter spends so much time with him that when someone else handles or rides him, he becomes a little monster, as does she, turning green with envy. The time to purchase has come.

The problem is, I have been told 2 prices, $300.00 & $500.00. Then I talked to my BO's wife & she said she wasn't sure & for me to look around & come up with something that I thought would be a fair price & that we would go from there.

I have no idea what a fair price is. Also, as some of you know, I well over paid for my own horse because I just couldn't bear to part with him & the lady knew I wasn't walking away without him. These people are NOT like that, they will NOT use my daughter's emotional attachment against us to get a higher price, because in all honesty, I'd pay whatever they asked she just loves him so much. But, at the same time, I want to be FAIR. So...

Ok, here he is:

12 y/o 15hh arabian gelding. He has been trained to drive, but we have no interest in using him for anything other than western pleasure. He's a little wild child but that's why he & Aerin get along so well. Last summer was her first time showing & they did well together so she wants to get him back in the ring this spring.

Please give me honest answers about what you would pay in my situation. Thank you so much in advance for your input!

Offer her $425.00. That's 85% of $500, and certainly fair enough.

$500 for him is more then likely a great price for him. As long as he comes sound and with a clean bill of health, id say $500 would be a heck of a deal. Especially with such a bond already in place.

Perhaps a great xmas present for your daughter?

Is it the bay or the sorrel?
Depends on what he knows and what he can do.. my Horse is 12 years old and knows all kinds of perks I turned down 5,000 for him and he's an ugly lil grey QH. That can rollback, Spin like a top, change leads, stop on a dime and handle bridless so It really depends on the horse.

Either of the quoted prices are fair. So you can't be hurt no matter what you pay. Since your daughter already knows the horse.loves the horse. And they do well together your way ahead of the game. My suggestion is just buy the horse.lol. I figure my stress in worring about things is worth alot of money. I try to treat all sellers and buys fairly. Just make sure to get the halter..lol..old horse trading standards there... ride safe. Keep us posted

Thank you guys for all of your input!!

I think I will go with the aforementioned $500.00 & see what they say about that. I think that is MORE than fair on our end & I just didn't want to rip him off or have my BO offended when I said such a low price, even though it was a price mentioned by him, but it was about a year ago.

I forgot to mention, when I buy him, he's not leaving where he is at so my BO will get an additional $165.00/$185.00 a month for his board & all the stuff he has, halter, saddle, etc. is all stuff we bought, except his hackamore, which I am replacing for Christmas.

P.S. I guess I could have told you guys, he's the sorrel. The bay is my fatty TB. :)

And yes, CLaPorte432, I was hoping to frame a bill of sale in my daughter's name & give it to her for xmas. ;)

As others have said, $500 is more then fair. You may have been told 2 different prices, but I bet it'd be more then $200 worth of hassle and hair tearing to find another good horse in the same price range.

Oh, I knew it was the sorrel. Pissy little Arabian diva face!
