A. - Our country sucks!
B. -Our country rules and you'd better agree!
I used to be in the middle. I'm sliding slowly towards A every day though.
Romanians brag a lot about how they respect horses, animals, especially on the countryside. We have poems about horses, we have fairytales with the mighty steeds....
...and we have a horrible reality instead.
I knew what I was getting into when I joined the shelter and I am still going to go but really, every day I feel I'd want to rip the head off those ex-owners.
Some gypsies from whom the latest addition was confiscated came to the shelter wanting to take their horse back.
I had to ask twice ****ed_evans to convince myself I'm not hearing things. Yes they want to put him back to work.
He can barely move. But hey who cares! Is it alive? Then we can still beat the crap out of him and work him to death.
As for the oh-so-praised countryside. Give me a break.
I'd give an optimistic 15% of horse owners who do take care of their horses correspondingly. They're shod in medieval conditions, underfed or overfed and they all end up with their feet messed because all their lives are trotting on concrete roads pulling carts.
I googled "romanian horses". I ended up with most heartbreaking or bizarre news. Including this one
Horse arrested for being drunk in charge of cart - Equestrian news, equine news, horse news - Horse & Hound
There's also this stupid stupid STUPID vision about horses that they have to be hot tempered to show how good they are. Rearing, snorting, etc.
So if I youtube around I my language I usually find a bunch of imbeciles going apesh!t and annoying a horse to show what a wonder of a horse they have.
And they're goddam happy!
I witnessed some time ago the lunging of a horse who wasn't figuring out well what's going on. Some guy was taking pictures. I swear that every time that horse was lunging correctly everyone was forgetting about it. When he would buck or fight everyone would pop in awe "Oooooh so beautiful! Take a picture NOW"
For heck's sake, if that's your vision of a good horse, xerox the Ferrari logo and place it on your contact lens.
Most of the elder people still do not see animals as creatures that should not suffer pain. They know they do, but they don't care "it's just a horse, a dog, a cat"
I'm loosing hope. The only solution I see is for the laws to be applied as often as possible. I doubt I'll see any mentality change in my life span.
But I do know people will abide to the law if they're punished. Just like it happened with cleaning dog poo. When they introduced the law they all laughed at it as a nonsese. Picking up our dog poo? What a stupid idea. When the police kicked in and apllied some harsh fines, people started picking it.
I'm sorry. I'm sad :(
