Talking What's your horses favorite treat?

Does your horse like apples or carrots? Oats or mints? Or do you have a special treat that your horse likes?

For example, my horse Freddie LOVES carrots, hates apples, and occasionally gets honey oat biscutes or peanut butter on carrots

Share your treat ideas!

They get apples and carrots, and they like them, but they love peppermints.

No doubt about it, peppermints are their favorites.

Aires will do ANYTHING (including crawl into your lap) for an apple. He likes carrots well enough, too. I've never given him peppermints, but my old gelding LOVED Star Mints.

My friend's arab gelding will mug you for Wheat Thins.

Another friend's quarab gelding loves Cheetos.

Yet another friend's arab gelding loves carrots, but if you feed him an apple, he acts like you tried to poison him.

Aires didn't like them at first, either, which is kinda weird. However, he'd never had treats before (our BO, who had owned him since he was a weanling, doesn't believe in giving a horse anything but hay, and sweet feed if they're old), so he wasn't sure about anything, really. Now, if he even thinks you have an apple, he shoves that big ol' head in your face like "Some?!"

They get the normal horse treats from TSC, carrots, apples, and peppermints. My mare has a tie between peppermint flavored stuff and apples. She doesn't care for carrots. My gelding will eat any of the above with gusto.......but his FAVE' thing is iced oat meal cookies. He does not get these often. They are a very special treat for him.

My gelding is a new-ish aquire... here's how the treat thing went-

Mommy says: "Digby... want an apple?" *Offers apple*
Digby: *farts in my face* (horse speak for No.)

Mommy: "How 'bout a carrot?" *Offers carrot*
Digby: *yawn* (horse speak for Nope.)

Mommy: "Peppermint?" *Offers pretty piece*
Digby: *smirks at me* (Horse speak for Not.)

Mommy: "Butterscotch candy?" *Halfway attemps to offer*
Digby: *falling asleep... snore* (Horse speak for Insulting)

Mommy: ...stumped and hungry, pulls out Honey Oat Granola bar snack for herself...
Digby: *one eye snaps open, zeros in on granola bar*

Mommy: *notices, crinkles wrapper a little more*
Digby: *drools, both eyes open wide... pleading*

Mommy: "Want a little bit?"
Digby: *Happily munching with dream like expression on face*
Granola bar- gone in three seconds flat!
