I'm struggling as well! I'm a fair weather rider - I had to ride young thoroughbreds for years in the rain, wind, sleet, snow - you name it and I was out there. Now, if it's raining.. which is does daily, I struggle to get motivated.

Bandit doesnt seem to mind :) He's enjoying being useful once every other week :)

Can I kick all of you in the butt for having horses to ride but not riding them?

When I was in the States I went to the barn almost everyday and there was only one day I didn't ride!

Go spend time with your horses :)

Sky, I'm good at spending time with them as I'm out with them twice daily and always give them a quick rub down.. I'm struggling with trying to juggle kids, horse and daylight hours :/ I'm certain if I had somewhere with lights I'd get out in the evening when hubby is home from work.. but I don't and I can't risk the roads once the light starts to leave me :(

I say if you have access to an indoor arena, weather isn't an issue. However when the ground is gleaming with ice, I don't want to risk it and I will admit if it's blowing snow, I skip riding on those days as well!

I'm a fair weather rider, and it seems on the nicer days that something always comes up with the kids.
I need a kick to get out there if I want to show this year, I need to be working on it now.

I just got back from a ride w/some of my neighbors-it was a bit windy, there were some spooks, but we all had a good time. It was my first ride this year, but there have been many extenuating circumstances to keep me house-bound. I was invited back to ride anytime. (I, myself am horseless ATM.)

Huge difference between "having" to, because it is my job and "wanting" to because it is not my job...LOL...with that said, I too have become fair weathered.

Rode all week long, the weather perfect. Today the wind has come up, but not bad, still very comfortable in a light weight jacket, I decide to play on HF and finish my taxes....what a wimp! But it is still early I may guilt myself yet!

Oh I know how that goes.. then you get into the nitty gritty of finding babysitters, etc.

At least you have the weekends, right?

I'm glad you get to spend time with your horses though :)

Seems first it was the rain, then the severe cold (for Oregon), then one person sick after another, and so on. When I was going out riding it seemed it would only follow with not being able to ride again for two weeks so, I am always feeling like I am starting over! I hate it!

Should I just wait?............ take what I can?............ What, what??!! LOL.

I guess I am starting to feel sorry for myself because I really am not feeling well and I look outside and think...........I could be this or that. We also bought a horse trailer that we are working on and that has been delayed also.

So, anyone want to join my pitty party?????
It is easy to put off working a horse. Waiting for less wind, cooler or warmer weather, time of day when there are less bugs, after lunch and so on and then all of the sudden the day is shot.

So I decided that the horse was going to come 1st and today when it was a nice warm 16 degrees and I thought I will mess on the computer 1st. I told myself no, work the horse 1st and then mess around. It worked and I am glad I did.

I also like to have goals like working towards some shows. I also thought my horse was deathly ill and I regretted not having worked her more to her potential. When we finally got the correct diagnosis and I realized she was not going to be permenantly ill I am taking this second chance to work her to her potential and she is my priority.
