So, 3 years ago dad bought me a horse. The lady he bought "kidd" from bought him from the kill pen (means he was awaiting slaughter for meat) for ten cents a pound. We got him for 600$ + my dad did the ladies taxes. He was a stud colt.

He was so sad looking, and this horse was nuts. Wouldn't let anyone get near him.

In a month... We got him halter broker. I started teaching him some groud manners. Introduced him to cross ties, and be became very curious and intrested. Before, he wanted nothing to do with anything and would charge / bite you if you came close.

We introduced the saddle (no buck, or ANYTHING)

and Now.

You'd never guess this crazy horse turned out to be such a lovely little gelding. He's never bucked / reared. I've fallen off him once because I wasn't paying attention and he spooked. But he's never thrown me on purpose.

Sadly, I developed a meth addiction. That became more important. I managed to keep Kidd though. He was there for me when I got out of rehab <3

Who saved who here? Kidd understands me like no one else. When I was high, he NEVER let me touch him. Now, if I walk away he whinnies untill he sees him.

He's 2.

Plus, he was this marking that looks like a butterfly. Guess we both got a second chance.

That is a touching story. Just be strong, keep away from meth and take good care of Kidd! He will return your care for him thousandfold. He's a handsome boy and has some very interesting color patterns!

He could be a three, coming four year old given the details of the story. I too hope it's true. I work in the psych/dual diagnosis (psych diagnosis + substance dependency & addiction) field, and KNOW BECAUSE I SEE IT DAILY, how very nearly impossible a Meth addiction can be to kick.

Keep working any program that works for you, Megan, and I highly recommend making Kidd a part of your DAILY THERAPY! Horses are amazing rehabilitators, as we ALL KNOW, on hundreds of levels.
Prayers to you and for your journey! :0)

I am with you on this one back2horseback. I work as a cna and we get psych patients with addictions all the time. our hardest patients to reach are our meth addicts, and to be able to overcome that you need to be made of nails because even the strongest person can fail if they dont have the inner grit it takes to kick it.

Congrats OP for kicking the addiction, i am sure Kidd will make sure you dont go back.
