Why do we love horses so much?

I was just thinking about this ... why do we love horses so much? I was looking at people's avatars and their smiling faces with their horses. They bring us so much joy and happiness. They are many people's ultimate dream. Why is this? Maybe a question that cannot be answered ... but there is just something unexplainably wonderful about horses. Even when they buck us off and make us brush them after they've rolled... we just utterly adore them.

I am addicted to horses. I have been in love since I was 4. A horse is probably the one thing I have asked for every Christmas, to no avail.

Horses provide friendship, a workout, concentration, a challenge, intellect, power, and beauty.

They're just...pure.

I dunno, I would go insane without horses.

Horses are so therapeutic too ... being around them helps me so much. Like today for example, I had a very stressful day, but I went out to the barn this evening and it put me in the greatest mood and calmed me right down.

When I was a teenager my horse was my best friend. I spent as much time with him as I could. You can tell them anything and they won't tell no one. They can tell how your feeling and cheer you up when needed. I love watching mine from the house. Its relaxing and funny at times.

One morning I was loping a couple of our mares down the side of the road when I lady out for a walk flagged me down.

We walked up to her, and she simply said "You made my day."

I asked her why, and she replied..

"...in our busy, hurried, and chaotic lives, so see such beautiful animals running, manes and tails flowing in the breeze, is a breathtaking work of art..."

..and so it is.

I agree Jubilee that it is therapy. It is for me anyway. I wouldn't be the same person I am today if it wasn't for them. Its a different sort of love than you have for any other creature. I love my dogs but I LOVE my horse, does that make sense? If I could bring her in the house and have her stay with me all the time I would.

Sorry I'm editing in but I just thought of this. I think the reason is, you have to let your emotions go when your with your horse. You can't be angry or sad or stressed around a horse. You have to keep your mind completely focused on them. So you can let go of the rest of the world and its just you and your horse.

That's exactly how it is for me. I LOVE Athena, she just like my kid, and I would also like for her to come in my house.
They really do leave hoof prints on your heart.

I think horses are so very majestic. I watch Major galloping around the pasture or playing and frolicing with friends and Im always amazed at how powerful and beautiful he is. He gets to me with those big brown eyes of his also...so soft and intelligent looking. Horses are such hard work...but I have not ever...not even once...thought that he wasnt worth it. Theres something very special in that. I think its a very good question that you asked. I had someone close to me question me about it. He said..dont you think itd be so much easier to get rid of that horse, he has bucked you off, you have to go and feed him twice per day, you have to shovel manure and with the money you spend on him...you could take a great vacation every year or buy yourself something really nice that doesnt require work or feed. My response was...I think we should start seeing other people.
