I had to work all day on saturday. Some OLD OLD friends were supposed to be dropping by. I haven't seen them in years and I was gutted to miss them.
I come home and my mum tells me that their young daughters took my horses out for a ride, with the parents leading. I was pretty pissed. They're not kids horses. I argued it out with my mum who said it was all fine and that she and my brother did the tacking up and supervised them. I was still mad but I let it slide.
I've been realllly busy this week and my horses are temporarily off of my land. It's been about all I can do to get hay chucked over the fence and the hosepipe left on a few minutes a day to keep the water topped up.
So today I finally get out to see my horses. My gelding is lame. My gelding is NEVER lame....I run over there and find that one of his belly straps is around his far hind and fastened. The rug has been put on incorrectly and has rubbed when he walks.
I can't believe it. I was promised that all the handling, etc was supervised. My family would NOT make that mistake, so the rug was CLEARLY put on by the guests and NOT checked.
I confronted my mum about this, and of course she feels bad that she didn't check them. She also rightly pointed out that it is my fault that I have not noticed till now. I've been so busy with my chaotic week that I have relied on the help of others to care for my horses and have not made time to check them. THIS WEEK OF ALL WEEKS! Any other week and i'd have known by sunday and fixed it.
I've done my best to fix it up. He looks a lot better already, hopefully no lasting damage has been done, but I still take it seriously.
I feel terrible, but i'm also mad that my mum wasn't more responsible when letting children handle my horses. Teh whole thing is just.....ugh.
There's a lesson to be learned here, folks!
Rant over. If you read all of this....thanks!
