Worst ride blugh

I had a cruddy ride today. Poor Carolina. I feel like I'm doing more harm than good with her. I can't get her on the bit. She went great to the left but had a mind of her own to the right.

Which really means I wasn't giving her the right cues of course. I'd like to say the stallion pacing the fence next to the arena didn't help but I can't blame it.

We did jump a couple of times and that was perfect, at least it felt it.

I had my son video the ride and I looked terrible, like I'd never ridden before. Ever. My husband doesn't understand why I'm bummed. He even said "So what?" which in his buttmunch way is saying that he cares about the ride as much as he cares about the difference between 2% and whole milk.

Everyone has those crappy ride days. Tomorrow is another day and you will do much better At least you know, when a horse doesn't do what your asking, your probably asking wrong
We rode with our saddle club today. About a 3 hours trail ride, it was fun. Vida did great but we have our off days too. Maybe a mare thing?

Everyone has those days. I'm just happy you don't completely blame your horse for the troubles.

My instructor tells me that 99% of what a horse does wrong is most likely the rider's fault. But, it takes someone special to realize that it's their fault. Good luck, and I'm sure that the next time will be much better!

Thanks for the replies. I just wish I could figure out what I'm doing wrong. Watching the video it looks like we're hacking, badly.

If we're at a halt, I lightly tug the reins with my ring fingers and she'll bend at the poll. But at the walk, trot or canter, nothing that I do will get her to get on the bit. I'm doing something wrong, I just don't know what. I can't wait to find a trainer that isn't going to just keep telling me to get a stronger bit and turn her into a cow horse. I know it's not her. I mean I know she's rust and unfit, but I'm worse.

Sorry. I'm having a big pity party here.
