I found out through the grapevine that a certain couple has applied for a live in position at my barn. I have not heard directly from my BO, but have not spoken with her yet either, we keep very different hours, but she is quite open with all the boarders, we are a small, private barn.
The problem is, I boarded with these folks years ago and they are horrible. They abuse animals, not just horses, but their cats and dogs as well. The humane society does drive bys every few days of their farm but since the property has been owned by a vet, the agents I've spoken to have not taken any action. The property is being sold, so apparently they are looking for new places to move in and abuse horses.
Besides seeing with my own eyes (some years ago), they were also fired from their position at the vet clinic, and had their certification with our state horse council revoked. There are problems running much deeper than I know, I'm sure, but I do have personal experiences with it.
I don't want to gossip to BO without being told, but under no circumstances would I ever keep my horses there if those folks were to move in, I know three other people (totaling 8 horses) who feel the same way, as well as 3 perspective boarders who have not moved in yet (3 more horses). I adore my barn and do not want to leave, but I would to protect my animals. Would you say something? Or sit tight to let it play out?
My barn owner has the hugest heart of anyone I ever met, I would not want to see her hurt in the process. She would bend over backwards for any of her boarders and many of us would do the same.
