I just finished riding Jubilee in the riding ring and I decided to cool her out in the bigger area beside it, where there's lots of trees. As we were meandering around calmly, we come to some water and I make her go through it a couple times.
We walk all around the area and come back, through the water again. She starts striking at the water playfully, at first gently and then with more force till its splashing her in the face. I start laughing to myself because its kind of funny and I'm like, "whatever she's having fun!" Boy was she ever ... doesn't she hunker down (with me on her!!) and start to roll?????!!!!!!
I was thinking "AHHHHH" and I catapult off her, scared she'll squish me of course, and get completely soaked in the muddy water! She's lying on her side by this time and rolling (not completely on her back though), while I'm sitting in the mud in complete shock! She stands back up and my eyes get huge. Her entire side is CAKED in MUD!
I wasn't even, "oh no, dirty horse." It was more like ... "My tack. My new .... ugh ... white saddle pad ... at least it was white ... aggghhhh Jubilee!!!" It was so unfortunate. But actually pretty hilarious.
Oh my. What a pair we were covered in mud. This lady at the barn afterward called us "mud babies." Oh my goodness... so funny.
Just thought I'd share!
