Default Float Reno - Kick Panel Question

Finally, finally, my angle float is being fixed up.

Currently I have a sprayed rubber floor (which I am keeping) and plywood kick panels front and back.

Have been intending to put the existing kick panels back in, but then started wondering what other materials might be better.

What material are your panels made out of?
How do you make the join where the panel meets the wall / floor water proof so I don't get the bottom of my float rusting out again?

Can you use a silicon caulk? Like what is made for houses.
