So in preparing myself to own a trailer I have been reading ALLOT about towing capacity, freaking myself out about my own vehicle and am pretty much just very confused by the mixed information.
Why is it Europeans will pull a 1300 odd lb brenderup (some of them weigh as much as 2100) with a horse in it with a car.....but Americans cringe at the thought of towing smaller 2 horses with 1 horse in it with plenty of towing capacity?
I hear, it wont stop, wheel base...YOU WILL DIE...and I am just so confused.
I am sure I will get flamed for this and oh well. My situation is I own a pathfinder and before I tow will have a brake box installed. I am getting a 2200 lb trailer and will be trailering a 1200 lb horse. I'll be going to shows once or twice a month. I am starting to work again next year and will then purchase a "tow" vehicle. BUT with 6000 lbs of towing capacity (recently had the whole thing inspected!) I feel safe pulling AND stopping at most 3600 lb behind me in the pathfinder...
I read about people pulling 5500 lb boats and campers around the country and yet I feel like I NEED to go get a Dodge 3500 diesel to pull my trailer around a couple times a month.
..........I am scared to press "submit new thread"
