You also have to pay attention to how level the trailer is when it's loaded on your truck.

You can have a smaller than needed truck with the nose slightly elevated and do better than someone with more truck and the nose pushing towards the ground (not suggesting ever using less than needed truck especially with live animals)

At the same time you don't want the nose jacked up so high that the rear bumper of the trailer is going to drag
