yes I do. You can never learn everything there is to know about horses. My trainer has been there done that and can teach me something new/more advanced everytime I have a lesson
^^If there was that kind of trainer where i board, i would certainly have one. Because they can help you with things that you cannot really see when you're on their back.
True, I would only use a trainer for something I needed them desperately for, but I like to take pride in my work. Also like you said, you don't know everything about horses, and neither does a trainer, yes, they may know more, but not everything.
I worked with a trainer last summer. I learned what I could from him, and am currently working on my own until I perfect what I learned. At that point, I would like to learn what I can from another trainer, and so on.
i didn't know what to say..... i don't actually use a trainer but i work for one and i always ask questions, but i don't pay him...... anyway i chose yes though
Well actually I am a trainer.... so for the most part I'm on my own. But we get a grand prix trainer in from Colorado every couple of months to work with all three trainers at our barn. She's absolutely incredible! And she does clinics with George Morris, Geoff Teal, etc. So I guess no matter how good you are you could always learn more. We also have an incredible dressage trainer come in every other week who's a silver/bronze USDF medalist and I take a lesson or two from her every once in a while. Other then that it's just me and the 2 other trainers at our barn watching and helping each other out.
I plan on using one in Spring. I don't have enough knowledge to put really good training on my youngsters (I'm not talking about ground work and bouncing in saddle, but make them ready for show).
did that come across as cocky? sorry if it did! I was just trying to share my position in the matter. that and the fact that even those in teaching positions always have a lot to learn from someone else. Why be cocky about what you know? There's always more to learn and always someone better then you!
I pretty much am my own trainer but I do use the trainer at our barn too for show training at least. I know little to squat about showing and I finally decided I'm going to do Showmanship with my horse, despite what I've said previously, so I have her helping me out with my horse and squaring up and the likes. :] For everything else? I do it myself.
I'm sure i would do that too if i was going to show Vega. I feel i have enough experience to keep me safe, and know when to get off and stuff. If i felt i had a problem that was over my head, then i'll turn to a trainer.
Ohdear. I didn't mean it as an insult. I was just saying. I do most of the training of my horses myself. I go to a trainer if im in over my head, they show me what to do and i move on.
Having someone on the ground when working with a horse will always get you a different perspective and insight no matter the experience you have.
I think you are always better off working with someone.
I put no, but I am going to a trainer in a couple of weeks for a confidence building session. There are other reasons besides just learning to ride for using a trainer. I know some dressage riders spend years under a trainer to perfect their art.

Exactly. Like I said no matter the level of riding or experience, having someone from the ground will always give you a different view of things and learn/improve yourself and your mount.
