Bareback- first time

So I decided yesterday to start training my boy barebacking. As someone stated on another post on here, I jumped up on my belly and held my weight, put my foot over his saddle and held it there and he was good. He was curious what I was doing but that's about it. But I had work so I left it on a good note and so I'm thinking today I will get on him fully and get my mother to lead me around to begin with. Fingers crossed all goes well! Any tips? Would love to hear them! :)

Have you ridden bareback before on another horse?

Congrats!

Cream is dead broke under saddle. She will take advantage of younger riders here and there, especially if they're nervous, but that's about it. One day a young boy was riding Cream's pasture buddy bareback and I looked at my boss and asked if she rides bareback. (After 2 years with here, I didn't see anyone even try.) She said she didn't know.

Don't ask me where my sudden plethora of guts came from... But I just got on and did it. Only at the walk.

Apparently though she only does it for me. I slid off and asked a friend to try -- one of those who doesn't really care for Cream but will ride just about anything. Guess who crow hopped her front end and refused to move? Creampuff.

I'll also be redundant... Is this your first time riding bareback, or your horse's?

Haha love the story. Its not my first time, I've done some barebacking in the past, approx 1 year and a half ago so along time ago and only walking and trotting. Its my horses first time without a saddle

I'd do what you just did again for a few times more, personally. I always do things slow to save myself possibly issues. Hard to say, can't see the horse and his reactions.
Let his actions tell you how far you should go. Don't forget, if you do it right, he does it right. Good luck.

If you've ridden him in a saddle he should be fine without, just go slow and be ready to 'slide' off if need be. Have fun :)
