Barrel Problems...

I have a 7year old arab, he will work the pattern with no problem at home someone told me not to run him at home? Well I get him to the rodeo and the arena is a mess so I instantly decide no running this one. He's already broke his leg and we lucked out... now we lope around the first barrel perfect so we have a good start the second barrel comes he dead stops and looks at it like... wth is that?!?!?!?! Im thinking great... well idk what to do I don't want to pay for his entry fees if all he's going to do is stop I don't care if he's fast I just want him to finish in one setting he's a hot blooded horse and I thought id have no problems getting him to run. I figured wrong. Any tips or ideas?

How long has he been training for barrels?

People say to not run barrels at home, but you need to work out their issues at home not a show. It sounds like the horse is still in training and needs more show experience. Run him at home, when he does good stop and end it there. When he's finished then don't run him at home. Maybe something spooked him at the rodeo.

Thanks this will be his second year. He has the pattern down great. The running thing makes more sence that way. I have tons of experience breaking horses just not much in the barrel department. I have talked to a few trainers who wanted to train him and run him a big races but I refused there offers I want to get thru this just me and him. I don't know if anything spooked him I think it was just all over new why he stoped I started out teaching him to run and he knew that's what he was supposed to do then someone told me no running at home I stoped now he's like annoyed with working the pattern at the walk trot canter.
