Barrel Racing?

I've been barrel racing since I was 5, but of course took a long break from it cause I started show jumping but
.....I have a 16.1 hh Long, Leggy, Fast, Big Thoroughbred Mare. She can run, and I mean RUN, she's HOT and very sensitive...
She gets perked up when she see barrels, but I can't seem to get her to canter around them, or canter back home. She's done it once. But She loves doing barrels. She has a nice turn, when she wants, she does dig in and push off. But I just can't seem to get her to canter faster. Any Ideas?
I will not do anything negitive, no spooking, no whips, no spurs.

What has been your training with her so far? Is she solid walking and trotting the pattern? Is this the same horse you were showjumping with?

Maybe she isn't quite understanding the process yet? I'd say get back to basics and walk, trot the pattern until she's confident with it and knows it. Then get into cantering it and picking up speed.

Yes we walk and trot it all the time, lol

And she has basic dressage training, western pleasure training, natural horsemanship training, and some jumping training, but she doesnt like to jump. Lol.

Is she solid at the walk and trot though? How often are you practicing on the pattern?

we started this spring, we practiced 3-4 times a week, yes she is very good at a walk and trot. But its winter now, which I cannot practice much or at all.

Did she ever race? If so you can use the signals jockeys do to get her to pick up the pace.

Help me horse forum! You're my only hope!

I don't know if this helps but to get my gelding to understand to run home we used to trot him through the pattern and ask for the lope coming out of the 3rd. It seemed to work for him. When we started loping the pattern he knew that coming out of the 3rd was time for him to start getting. Alot of barrel racers use quirts and the like but all I ever did with my guy was lean forward, jockey like, and kiss.

No she was never raced, we bred her, we used to have a breeding farm, I've trained a few barrel horses, but im better with training in jumpers and dressage, but she's a bit diffucult for barrels, I know she enjoys it, I just need more help XD lol
I have cantered her home a few times :) that might help if I keep doing that! :)

Maybe she needs some trail rides fit in there somewhere? My pony gets really slow when she hasn't had some trail rides in her week.
