Basic Horse Training

Hey, I am in need of some suggestions. I have a QH mare named Seren , who I've had for quite awhile( 10 years ) . My mom got her for me after the death of my first pony , a paint mare who was some where around the age of 25-35 - no one knew for sure . :P
Anyway. I got Seren when she was 5 , rode off and on , then after a couple years I was old enough to get a job......
So now that's it's been 10 years, and she had only basic training to begin with....I would like to see if I have to gumf to re-start her....from the very bottem. She's pushy, she's fat, and she's spooky. But I'd like to try , instead of just shipping her off to a trainer. Since I need work at getting back into this as well.

My issue i'm running into is that there are way to many people to choose from. And I have no idea where to start. Lyons, Anderson, Parelli, TTouch..... who has the the most beginner friendly series ? And who will give me a good start with all the ground work....
My experience with horses is : put your boots on, get up and go.

Anyway, any idea's would be great :)

Really appreciate anyone who reads this!

I really like Anderson, really helped with my gelding who had trust issues. TTouch and Lyons are also very good. I don't know anything about Parelli but I have heard quite a lot of negative stuff about him lately.

I really like Stacey Westfall, she has a DVD series that is fairly reasonably priced and I like a lot of her training methods.

I would recommend getting as much information from them all as possible!! Listen to all the trainers you can, then put all their ideas that worked for you together and us them all, that's what I try to do :)

For me a helpful resource is GiddyUpFlix. It is like netflix for horse training videos. Great way to sample without spending a lot of $$$. Horse DVD Rentals | Horse Training Dvd | Horse Dvds | Rent Horse Videos

My two cents' worth: Monty Roberts and Join Up. I have an over-sized lapdog with personal space issues. This method works for Hugo.

We have directed several people to Clinton Anderson because his DVD series for beginners and his series for gaining respect is done with beginners on the video and with horses making mistakes. He does not edit out people or horses making mistakes so it all makes a lot more sense to a person just getting started schooling a not-so-great horse.

Every one of those that we have directed to his new DVDs (much better than his old ones) have gained so much knowlege and respect for and from their horses that they handled and rode them like different people than we first met.

Thank you all for your comments, Lot's of good suggestions.
I am going to sign up for the Giddyupflix ( thank you CanyonCowboy !! ) so I can do like ridergirl23 suggested :)
They have Clinton Anderson's material and also Stacey Westfall ( along with everyone else ) , so I can try them all out before I buy.
Again, thank you!

I am another who has studied the teachings of Clinton Anderson, Tom Dorrance, John Lyons and other well-known trainers. I got to meet Clinton Anderson up close and personal at a clinic several years ago. With each of trainer's clinics I got to audit I brought home new techniques to try with my horse. I never adhered to one specific clinician/trainer's insights to horse training. I took away in what was of interest from each of the clinicians programs.
