Ok, Im new to horses. Rode a few times in the past, but never owned a horse. I got a chance to pick up a free 16 year old Palamino mare that was a good rider but hadn't had too much attention paid to her for the last year. Not abused or negleted to much (no grain). She rides pretty good but is getting a little buddy sour as we added another old mare that my friend got. After looking somethings up about that, I learned I'm using the wrong bit. Im using a curb bit with a twisted copper jointed bit. Im not sure what type bit she was using before, it could have been a hackamore for all I know. I'd rather not go out and buy one of each to see what she likes best. I want something that is confortable as she listens pretty well with neck rein, at least turning and stopping. Thanks for any suggestions.
