I have a couple of sets of rhythm beads. They have bells on them and they can serve a couple of purposes.

The sound does help to desensitize them.

The sound can also help them when you are trying to keep them in a certain gait. They and you hear the rhythm to keep in step with.

It also can block out some distracting noises. (Admittedly, not much )

And last, but not least, they just look pretty!

I bought mine at a horse fair booth for about $7.00 a piece. They are really long. They go around the horse's neck and rests about midway down the chest. They are attached at the mane with a clip.

If a person was into beads you could make one yourself and add feathers, horse tassels and of course, bells.

    Horsegma, welcome to the forum!

I like the idea of the rhythm beads. I can see that as being very useful in a variety of ways. Training a horse, training a rider, just the melody as you are riding, etc. Very good!

I do the grocery bag thing but I just tie them around the pen on the fence, in the trees, just everywhere. That way the horse can investigate them at their leisure and get used to them flapping.
I have a video somewhere that you can hear our bells on. If I can find it I'll post it

Here it is, be sure to have your sound on.
