Best heart rate monitor? Eventers advice?

Hi everyone, I've just had good news that my gelding's heart is fine (thought the left atrium was enlarged but turns out it's fine for his huge size). So now we're dealing with 'just' Atrial Fibrillation. According to the specialists, he's not a good candidate for correction because of his size (17.3hh) and because it's been more than 4 months. So we're going to continue riding dressage and watch him like a hawk, letting him dictate to us how much he can do. But it's difficult because he's just being put back into work.

Anyhoo, I need a heart rate monitor. I know nothing about them! Help. If you can help me with the differences, brands, etc that would be much appreciated. Is there any that the rider can 'see' during exercise or?
