bit/nose piece????

Maggie my 20 yr old TWH is really bad about tossing her head and hates backing I ride western and have her in a snaffle bit I was wondering if I could get a snaffle with a nosepiece that would help with headtossing I know her teeth are good and the bit is properly adjusted i'm just starting to ride her after she was abandoned and hadn't been ridden for about 5 years she takes the bit good (I don't have to stick my finger in her mouth) and only tosses her head when we're trotting (she get's really exited when we trot) because she wants to canter it was just an idea I had when I was riding sorry I'm rambly I'm horrible at putting ideas into words

I don't know about the nosepiece; that may end up making it worse. Maybe if you first try training it out -- as soon as she starts tossing, step down 1 gait (man, I can't remember the right word for this today!) to a trot or a walk or a stop if needed. If she likes speed, this may be all she needs for encouragement to pay attention to you. Head tossing that isn't from pain, to me is an indication of "I wanna do something else" attitude and shouldn't be tolerated.

I do agree wit northernmama but I think if that fails you can simply use rings, I always use to use rings wit becoz she use to chuck her head and she was fine wit the rings it was quiet amazing!!!
