Question Building a platform?

I've been doing alot of ground exercises and games with my girls over the past several months and i've always wanted to teach them to stand on a platform, however i've no clue how big to make it.
What dimensions are best and how high?
Any tips would be great! Thankyou

Google 'pedestal instructions' or such. I think there may be dimensions & such on 'Imagine A Horse' site, or at least their Yahoo Groups forum.

How big is the horse?

Here's the only picture I have of the one I made Duncan, and he can still stand on it just fine even though he's about 10hh now (don't know his weight). It's ply board on top (I asked the guy at Home Depot when I was making it what he suggested. Looked at me like I was crazy haha). Then I had them cut a 2x4 into even parts to fit the square ply board. Screw it all together, and add some handles for easy carrying

Sorry the picture is so small-- it was on my phone. If it's a big horse, though, I don't think just a piece of heavy ply board would work. It might need some extra support, like an extra 2x4 going down the middle to keep it from bowing in.

Marine or formwork ply is pretty strong. I wouldn't make it more than about 1' wide without a support down the middle if you're going to have a full size horse's full weight on it. I have a big loader tyre too, with a circle of formply covering the hole, and a few 2x4 uprights underneath.

Ya that's what I was thinking about the structure. They're both full sized girls (an arab and a fjord) so it would have to be big enough for them to eventually get all 4's on
