Building topline up?

What is the best way to go about building topline muscle without riding?
I'm tackless and my horse is a little too skinny to be ridden so I would be doing round pen work.
Any suggestions?

This thread has a lot of helpful advice: HorseHelp: Building up your horses back, In-hand and Under Saddle

I'll post more later.. it's getting late for me.

Good luck!

What are you feeding him? I wouldn't work him too much until he's got some calories to burn.

Cantering is a good topline builder, as are the use of cavalettis.

Don't even let the thought of building topline cross your mind until your horse is in condition to be ridden. Muscle will not develop, unless the horse is in good health, good weight and good nutrition.

Thanks guys!

He's currently being fed 5 flakes of good grass hay, 1 scoop of Omolene 100 2x/day.
I have SmartOmega3 and Fat Cat coming in from SmartPak soon.

Once he can be worked, there's a good book called "Right From the Start". It has in hand exercises you can do to get the horse to use his back without the added weight of a rider.
