Carrot Stretches

I have started doing carrot stretches with Buzz again :)

I have a question though.

When going for the stretch inbetween his legs, are they ment to take weight off there front legs?
I don't really know what Buzz does but I was doing the stretch and touched his leg and he pretty much picked it up no problem...
Wondering if I'm doing something wrong or if it's normal.

Also should you warm your horse up a bit before?
Or is it fine to do on a cold horse?

I've used carrot stretches as a warming up exercise prior to riding.

Can't help with the weight question. Haven't really noticed what you are describing. Maybe he is just being ultra sensitive because he wants the carrot.

Found the exercise useful in the past but I don't do carrot stretches so much anymore because people on here keep pinching my @##%# carrots!!

No, the stretch where they reach between their front legs, is meant to stretch their muscles from their poll all the way to their rump. That stretch also helps to develop their topline, in addition with the tummy lifts, the butt tucks and the tail pull.

You do not need to warm up your horse before you do stretches. When you do stretches before you go on a run, or do exercises, do you warm up before you stretch? No :) The stretches are a warm up in itself :)

It does'nt hurt to stretch before a woork out. But it is much more beneficial to do it afterwards. Think of your horses muscles like rubber bands.... it is harder to stretch cold rubber than warm.

He just seemed to be really stiff when doing it to the stifle area before anything.

What about the wieght question?

Also are they ment to be standing square?
