Celery? - (I hope its nutritional)

Argy has been doing GREAT! I have changed my attitude when I go to hang out with him to a more confident and matter-of-fact type of stance. He is still really jumpy, but comes right back after bolting off and he is running less far. Anyway, this evening I went out to feed and brought a few stalks of celery I was going to toss out. He approached me as usual, but when he saw I had something in my hand, he stopped and wouldn't come near. Finally after about 5 min he came close enough to where he could stretch out as far as he could to get a whiff, then jumped, reared up slightly, and spooked off. I just kept standing there talking to him and after several of these episodes, he decided to go ahead and have a smell up close. I got the impression he has never had anything but hay in his entire life. It's like he didn't know it was edible. Finally he ate a piece and it was the funnies thing I've seen so far. His entire neck nodded up and down, his tongue darted in and out, and he actually slobbered. Then he wanted MORE. So I gave him 1/2 of another stalk. He did the same thing, only faster, and then wanted more... and more... He had a total of 3 stalks 1/2 at a time, then we headed for the barn and I gave him his hay. I headed back up to the gate with my back towards the barn. I got half way there and I hear a 'clop, clop, clop, clop' behind me. It was Argy trotting to catch up with me!!!! He left his hay to catch up to me before I got to the gate! I'd like to think it was just me he wanted to be with, but I know it was probably the celery. Anyway, I hope celery is okay to give him.
