i have a 3 yr old almost 17 hh reg. tn walker mare that i bought in december.the man i bought her from was a horse trader with 14 other horses i didnt like the position she was in,she didnt have very much attention other than breaking her and an occasionall riding, she barely had any groundwork done to her,she wouldnt load, the trader tranquilized her to get her into the trailer, now i can lounge with her, bathe, pic up feet, she is completly desenstized and i can ride her anywheres and she will be fine no spooking no jittering etc.i can ride her bareback.but the problem is she wants to go fast she will either gait or canter.she wont lope or walk unless i hold her back and she is very strong leaning against the bit.she is a wonderful horse that im planning on trail riding and showing in the flat shod classes next year.
im going to be taking her to an under saddle clinic on july the 11th with hank hepperly.this is the first time ive ever taken her anywheres and i dont know how she will act.i want her to be listening to me without having to use a harsh bit on her.i will be working with her everyday until the clinic next saturday.any help would be great!

If you haven't taken her off property... I'd do that ASAP once or twice before the clinic! The first time we took my gelding out we were in for a nasty surprise... and you think about it, she hasn't gone anywhere new since she came to you from her previous owner, and despite the bad conditions there, all she knows is that she left her home to go somewhere strange and never went back! If that's her mindset when you take her to this clinic, she's bound to act up... Get her used to the trailer and to going new places, even if it's just once or twice.
