coming around

after nearly a year working my horse, Da Mare, she is finally coming along nicely. She was almost 10 when I get her. I bought her knowing that she was not broke, and had been in pasture for about 6 years. The previous owners were going to use her as a brood mare but never did get her bred. They only had her trimmed once a year, and did not vaccinate or worm her the last 2 years.

with people trying to give me advice on how to train her, I stuck to my guns, trying to follow the vaquero tradition. I am finally getting the results I have been looking for. This is a horse that has come to be known for being hot, and flighty, but not anymore.

bragging? Maybe a little, i am proud of myself and her, but my biggest point is......

TRUST Yourself . Pick a discipline, a method, and stick to good horsemanship. If i had given in and drugged her, put a tiedown on her, put her in a bit instead of the bosal hack, run her in the round corral until she was tired, she would not have come along the way she has. I choose to stick to time honored tradition and techniques and i am proud of the results. I could easily pawn her off as a broke horse for 3 times what I paid, but I know she has a few years to go to be what I am after.

trust yourself and have fun.
