I am so glad to hear that I am not the only one with this problem! Blu, although my boy will now go on the bit at the walk, he does the same thing at the trot with lifting his head so high! AND I have lost half-halts! I am going to ask my trainer about the lunging system (pessoa) that has been mentioned...we have tried the side reins, they work great when on, but that's about it. Keep me updated on your progress, and if you find something that works for you!

    Darn Appaloosers!

Melinda, the lunging system I mentioned is just like the pessoa, but it's only $35 as opposed to the $100+ Pessoa. It works great the horse has to find the release.

I also have a pair of Vienna style side reins. I haven't tried them yet, but from what I read, they are way better than traditional side reins.
    I hope everything works out.

Ah one of my favourite subjects - the pessoa lunging system ;)

I think it might be a really good idea for blu to have some time working on the pessoa. When I first got it I had massive improvements with jarreds acceptance of the bit and his balance etc. I hadnt used it for a while and I noticed (before he became mr cranky pants again) that he was slipping back a little. I think more consistent use of it would have been better at least in the initial training phases anyways.

If you have any problems with it or any questions just ask me or appy :)

I'm learning to love it too Jazzy. Vega did so well with accepting the bit, and having her head go down as a release from the pressure. And she didn't care about the bum strap. I'm definitely going to be using that more in hopes she'll accept the bit 100x better and her balance and movement will improve.
